Dev Hardware have published a review of the HP TouchPad and the Toshiba Thrive tablets. 'In terms of design, the gloss black HP TouchPad is not exactly the best that the tablet market has to offer. The plastic backing does nothing but accumulate smudges and fingerprints. Not only does it look bad after a few minutes of usage, but it lacks a comfortable grip that you would come to expect from a device that is meant for handheld usage. The TouchPad measures 9.5 inches tall by 7.5 inches wide by 0.5 inch thick and weighs 1.6 pounds. Its thickness is a bit bulkier than one would ideally want out of a tablet, but the device does appear to be solidly built and sturdy.'

Computeractive have published a review of the HP Touchpad 32GB WebOS tablet. 'The HP Touchpad has its own operating system, called WebOS, which is based upon the old operating system used by early touch-sensitive Palm handheld computers, so it has some pedigree. That showed through in use: we really liked how simple it was to use and it had some excellent built-in features. Apps were easy to access from the menu at the bottom of the screen, with more stored in the Launcher menu. Navigating through open applications was swift and the Touchpad breezed along rather well.'

Tablet PC Review have published a review of the HP TouchPad tablet. 'At first glance, the TouchPad looks like any other tablet computer; when I first took it out of the box I was surprised by how much it looks like an iPad, at least from the front. As far as size is concerned, the Touchpad is slightly shorter and wider than my original iPad, and it feels just a bit heavier. When you look at the front of the TouchPad, you may miss the front-facing camera above the screen and the home button below, as they're rather low profile and non-descript. The large touchscreen display dominates the front of the device, which is certainly expected. The back panel is plain black plastic, with an HP logo and a few regulatory/informational icons close to the bottom.'

Half an inch thick and wrapped in high-gloss plastic, the TouchPad's look and feel share more in common with a kitchen cutting board than the svelte designs of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or iPad 2. To be fair, the TouchPad's construction feels solid and worthy of HP's reputation for quality. It's the thickness and choice of materials that's throwing us off. After a few minutes of handling, the slippery plastic backing feels like a plate at a pizza party.'
