TabletPCReview have published their review of the Spring Design Alex eReader. 'The Alex comes in either white or black (charcoal). On the front of the Alex sits the six-inch eInk display just above the 3.5-inch LCD. Between them is a small "sync" button featuring the Spring Design logo, which synchronizes content on the eInk and LCD displays. There are two large buttons on either side of the LCD screen. On the left are the "Previous Page" and "Back/Home," and on the right are the "Next Page/Menu Options" and "Power/LCD On or Off" button. Each button has dual functions that you can activate with either a short or long press. On the upper right corner of the Alex is a microphone, and on the top of the device are the USB port and a 2.5mm headphone jack.'

Digital Trends have published their review of the Spring Design Alex eReader. 'In terms of size, the Alex feels like many similar e-readers, after being run over with a steamroller. Beside the Nook, it's definitely longer (8.9 inches compared to only 7.7), but also thinner (0.4 inches to 0.5) and not quite as wide (4.7 inches to 4.9 inches). More importantly for a device that owners will cradle for hours on end and travel with, it's also lighter, weighing just 11 ounces to the Nook's 12.1 ounces (for the 3G model). Amazon bests both models in this regard with the 10.2-ounce Kindle, though its lack of a color screen hardly makes it a fair fight.'

Tablet PC Review have published a review of the Spring Design Alex eReader. 'The Alex eReader is a sleek 4.7 inches wide by 9 inches tall and weighs a scant 11 ounces, and though it's a very thin device, it's certainly not frail. The textured plastic shell feels thicker than it probably is, and the device looks like it can take a bit of punishment. In fact, the scuffmarks on the back of my review unit suggest my particular Alex eBook reader already has. There are only five buttons on the device: two on each side of the LCD (navigation and power buttons) and one in between displays to sync them up.'

CNET have published their review of the Alex eReader. 'The eReader comes with a 2GB of internal memory, and the microSD expansion slot supports cards up to 32GB. Earphones, an AC/USB power connector, and a padded cover ship with the unit. While it's missing the sort of built-in 3G cellular data connection found on the Nook and Kindle, the Alex does--on paper, at least--present quite a decent feature set. In assessing the Alex, it's worth taking some time to try to determine what it does better than some of its competitors. For starters, the color touch-screen is not only larger but sharper and seemingly more responsive than the Nook's color LCD nav bar. We also like the icon-based home screen, which is more intuitive and slightly easier to navigate than the Nook's interface.'

Spring-Design-Alex-eReader-PC-Mag.jpg

PC Magazine have published a review of the Spring Design Alex eReader. 'Measuring 8.9 by 4.7 by 0.4 inches (HWD), the 11-ounce Alex is constructed of matte beige plastic, and feels a little flimsy when compared with the Barnes and Noble Nook, which features glossy plastic and a comfortable, soft touch back panel. In the box you'll find a protective cover, a mini USB cable and AC adapter, a set of wired stereo earbuds, and a Quick Start manual. The 6-inch electronic paper display sports 600-by-800-pixel resolution. While the e-ink screen on the Alex is capable of displaying 16 shades of grey like the Kindle, Nook, and the Sony Reader Daily Edition ($399.99, ), for now the device's OS can only display eight shades. Still, fonts look crisp and are easily readable on the monochrome screen.'

Laptop Magazine have published a review of the Alex eReader. 'The Alex combines simplicity and attractiveness with its minimal buttons and rounded corners. At 8.9 x 4.7 x 0.4 inches, the Alex is longer than the Nook and the Sony Daily Edition by 1.2 and 0.8 inches, respectively. Yet this device is lighter and thinner than both at 10.6 ounces and 0.4 inches. (The Nook is 12.1 ounces and 0.5 inches; the Daily Edition measures 14 ounces and 0.6 inches.) That's pretty impressive when you consider that the Nook doesn't do nearly as much with its secondary color LCD.'
