Apple iPad Preview - CNET Asia

Apple-iPad.jpg

CNET Asia have published their "First take" of the Apple iPad (Apple A4 processor 1.0GHz). 'Matte aluminum wraps around the backs and sides of the iPad, tapering a bit around the edges. If you've ever held one of the latest unibody MacBooks, you'd know exactly the kind of feel and finish of the iPad's aluminum. Unlike the polished chrome of the iPod or glossy plastic of the iPhone, the back of the iPad seems less likely to show fingerprints and wear. Like any Apple product, though, expect to see a boatload of cases and screen protectors for the iPad by the time it launches in April.'

MEElectronics-RockMee-II.jpg

The Top Review Shop have published a review of the MEElectronics RockMee II 8GB 3.0-Inch wide screen portable media player. '"With a list price of $129.99, the RockMEE II falls square in the middle of the price distribution for most 8gb flash players on the market. However, the RockMEE boasts a very enticing combination of features including a 3" TFT widescreen display and a MicroSD expansion slot. Is the RockMEE II user-friendly enough to make it worthy of consideration? Let's find out."

Sony-Reader-Daily-Edition-PRS-900BC-CNET.jpg

CNET have published their review of the Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS-900BC - eBook reader. 'The Daily Edition's 7.1-inch screen offers a 1,024x600-pixel resolution and 16 levels of grayscale. Like most other electronic paper products, this model uses e-ink technology, which serves to make the letters and words on the screen look more printlike in their appearance. One of the characteristics of e-ink is that when you turn a page or scroll from one onscreen menu item to another, there's a slight delay as the screen refreshes. That's true of this model, too, but it has a faster processor than Sony's entry-level PRS-300. Its faster processor is helpful when accessing PDF files, particularly larger ones, and using the zoom feature on those documents. (Note: Larger screen e-readers are more suitable for viewing PDF files, but while this one doesn't do a great job with them, it does better than the Nook and the Kindle do).'

Aiptek-PocketCinema-V10-Plus.jpg

PC Advisor have published a review of the Aiptek PocketCinema V10 Plus mobile media player mini-projector. 'Weighing just 159g (with battery), the 23x59x124mm Aiptek PocketCinema V10 Plus is about the same size as the 3M MPro120 - not much bigger than a thick candy bar. It has a native VGA resolution of 640 by 480, dual 0.5-watt speakers, and a battery life of 90 minutes. The Aiptek PocketCinema V10 Plus's strong suit, however, is its extra features: a card slot reads 32GB SDHC memory cards, and a media player has 4GB of internal memory for storing presentations, photos, movies, and video clips. No other pico we tested can capture video (up to 1.7GB per clip) via it's a/V input port from an external source such as a camcorder or DVD player.'

Logitech-Squeezebox-Radio-Pocket-lint.jpg

A review of the Logitech Squeezebox Radio has been posted over at Pocket-lint.com. 'The Squeezebox Radio is a compact unit which comes in red or black. It looks like a traditional radio, with dials and controls set on the front next to a forward-facing speaker and a 2.3-inch colour display. It measures 130 x 220 x 85mm so is compact enough to sit on a shelf in your kitchen or bedroom, but lacks the oomph to really be a party piece. The controls on the front are clearly labelled and simple to use. Once set-up the Squeezebox Radio is intuitive enough to use, but you will have to make sure that you have the device connected to your internet connection and the right software installed on your computer, or you'll find it won't do much at all.'

Sony-E345-RealmoftheFoxSpirit.jpg

The Realm of the Fox Spirit have published a review of the Sony Walkman E NWZ E345 portable media player. 'The Sony player is smaller than I expected and pretty lightweight but still sizeable enough to have a decent screen size. It came in red and black and I went with red (though it honestly looks kinda pinky to me.) I did notice Best Buy also has a lovely violet if you're willing to pay more, so maybe there are other colors Amazon doesn't carry. As with similar devices it seems rather prone to scratches particularly on screen so I plan on investing in a cover soon since it'll probably get bopped around in my car or in my pocket. It includes a USB cord for both charging and data transfer, and it says it takes about 2 hours to fully charge for about 30 hours of play. So far I have found the battery life good.'

Cowon A3 Review - PC World

Cowon-A3-PCWorld.jpg

PC World have published their review of the Cowon A3 portable video player. 'The A3 supports about as many file types as we've seen for a portable device. On the audio end, that includes MP3, WMA, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, OGG FLAC, Apple Lossless, and AAC/AAC+, but the device won't work with DRM-protected songs from online music stores such as iTunes or Napster. You may not want to put a lot of music files on the A3, anyway, because it doesn't support ID3 tag sorting. Instead, the A3 uses a file-tree system that you must manually organize on your PC through Windows Explorer or a similar file management program before syncing to the device. With its built-in microphone, the A3 also supports lossless FLAC as well as WMA audio recording.'

Apple-iPod-Mini-iPodBuyerGuide.jpg

The iPod Buyer Guide have published a review of the Apple iPod Mini MP3 player. 'Apple Mini ipod revolutionized the way people hear their music. Pure Sensia Review - Trusted Reviews

Pure-Sensia-TrustedReviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the Pure Sensia DAB radio. 'At first starting up the Sensia is a little awkward due to the fact that the power button, which does look like a button, isn't one. Instead it's a touch sensitive strip, requiring you to hold your finger on it to activate it. It also doubles as the snooze button, where you simply cover it with your palm to delay the inevitable. If at first this seems odd, once you understand how it works it's intuitive enough.'

Sony-Walkman-NWZ-B142F-CNETAsia.jpg

CNET Asia have published their review of the Sony Walkman NWZ-B142F (2GB) MP3 player. The NWZ-B142F works with Windows Media Player, so you don't need to download or install anything new to sync and transfer albums and playlists. Plug it straight into a USB port to both sync and charge. A full charge doesn't take too long--just over an hour, in fact--and will last for a claimed 18 hours of playback. Testing the player, we needed only a single charge for several days' worth of normal day-to-day usage. If you do ever happen to find yourself low on juice, a useful "quick charge" feature can give you up to 3 hours' worth of playback time from just 3 minutes of charging.'

Chumby Classic Review - PC Advisor

Chumby-Classic-PC-Advisor.jpg

PC Advisor have published their review of the Chumby Classic nternet media receiver. 'The Chumby Classic looks like the sort of soft-play toy your well-meaning sister might buy your toddler as a present. The squidgy device resembles an oversized Hacky Sack with a screen. It's powered from the mains and is Wi-Fi-based. To set up the Chumby Classic you plug him in, and log on to your chosen network. With a responsive touchscreen you cycle through the required alphanumeric password details.'

Speedo-Aquabeat-Waterproof-MP3-Player.jpg

A review of the Speedo Aquabeat Waterproof MP3 player has been posted over at Reg Hardware. 'The Aquabeat is actually only rated to a depth of 3 metres or 10 feet so you can't get too Jacques Cousteau with it, but it will suffice for stroking about in the pool or splashing around on the beaches of Bimini or Phuket. It's also buoyant, so there is no chance of you breaking the surface while it drifts to the bottom to be carted off by a larcenous crab. The player itself is a small 35g rubberized lump with a clasp on the bottom so you can hook it to a bikini string or goggles strap. If you prefer to swim in the buff, then you can either stuff the Aquabeat where the sun don't shine or purchase the optional £15 arm band, which would be our recommendation.'

Coby-4-GB-Flash-MP3-Player-hotcrew57.jpg

A review of the Coby 4 GB Flash MP3 player has been posted over at hotcrew57.com. 'The setup of this MP3 player is extremely easy. In fact, many people have managed to figure out the simplest way to use it by messing around with it. Forget about the MP3 player brands that need you to spend hours reading thru complex manuals. The 4GB memory and the FM radio with color display make this a product that is worth every penny. It's a quality MP3 player for an affordable price . iRiver Story Review - IT Reviews

iRiver-Story-ITReviews.jpg

IT Reviews have published their review of the iRiver Story ebook reader. 'Primarily intended for the popular ePub format, you'll also find support here for a range of more common standards such as PDF, DOC and TXT and, more intriguingly, Powerpoint and Excel files. Despite this apparent flexibility, it's clear that this is a bit of an afterthought as the readability of some formats, particularly PDF, PPT and XLS, is entirely dependant on the original document resolution and layout, so should not be relied upon. A large 6-inch (800 x 600-pixel) e-ink display offers a few advantages over some of the competition, including most notably an improved battery life. iRiver claims over 100 hours of use from a full charge (or around 9,000 page turns) and although we couldn't confirm this.'

Plastic-Logic-Que-proReader.jpg

Pocket-lint have published their "First look"review of the Plastic Logic Que proReader ebook reader. 'With exclusive screen technology that is made from a special plastic, Plastic Logic claims that you'll be able to view the screen in sunny conditions without issue. Unfortunately that didn't stop the lights on the show floor giving us issues when we came to photograph it, but because it doesn't use glass it means that it should also be tougher. Although it hasn't been shown, and you won't be able to see it, the Plastic Logic's screen material can actually bend. Available initially in the US with the promise of a global roll-out if all goes well, connectivity is offered via the AT&T network, although you won't have to worry about data charges.'

SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-8GB-ModSynergy.jpg

A review of the SanDisk Sansa Clip 8GB MP3 player has been posted over at ModSynergy.com. 'The Clip measures only 2.2 x 1.4 x 0.7 inches and can fit in your pocket or clipped on your belt or anything you can find. It weighs only around .92 ounces so it's easy to not realize that it's on you. SanDisk utilizes a 4-line OLED display and it looks fantastic. It's super-bright, easy to read at virtually any angle and just looks magnificent. The OLED displays blue colored text and it's easily one of the best displays I've come across. An equally bright blue LED rings around the multi-directional pad and the pad buttons itself is illuminated blue so you can see the buttons at night. Perfect!'

Sony-Walkman-NWZ-E443-PCAdvisor.jpg

PC Advisor have published a review of the Sony Walkman NWZ-E443 MP3 player. 'The Sony Walkman NWZ-E443 mimics the iPod nano in many ways, with the same form factor, same headphone jack placement and a similar control scheme. The Sony player is slightly fatter and shorter, and its plastic body isn't as pleasing to touch as the Nano's aluminium one. The main point of difference is Sony's interface. The iPod uses a scrolling menu, while the Sony Walkman NWZ-E443 employs the same grid layout as the X-Series and has a five-way control pad. It's not as refined as Apple's interface but it won't take long to adjust to. The experience is let down by a low resolution screen (240x320 pixels) that lacks the detail and vibrancy of the iPod nano's.'

ViewSonic VEB612 Review - CNET UK

ViewSonic-VEB612.jpg

A review of the ViewSonic VEB612 ebook reader has been posted over at CNET UK. 'ViewSonic hasn't exactly broken any new ground with the VEB612's design, but it's still a relatively stylish device. The white finish may feel slightly plasticky, but it certainly gives the device a clean and fresh appearance. As the VEB612 is relatively petite, measuring just 127 by 203 by 9mm, it's pretty comfortable to hold too, and, at 180g, it's unlikely to push you over the hand-luggage limit when you're off on your travels, even if you're flying with Ryanair. We also like the way that ViewSonic has included a white leatherette case with a magnetic clasp on the front, to keep the VEB612 safe when it's tucked away in a backpack or suitcase.'

Ramos T11RK Review - Shanzai

Ramos-T11RK-Shanzai.jpg

A review of the Ramos T11RK is a 5" portable media player has been posted over at Shanzai.com. 'The T11RK is powered by the Rockchip RK2806 chip (an ARM-based processor from a Chinese company) and enables 720p resolution playback of AVI, RMVB, MKV and FLV files at rates of up to 25 fps. It can encode H.264, Mpeg2/4, Xvid, and DivX videos and as you'll see from the video below, the playback performance is clearly the stand-out feature of the device. Audio-wise, the product supports a number of formats including Mp3, wma, wav, aac, and ac3 and delivered a pretty good sound through the earphones that come bundled with it.'

Sandisk Sansa Clip+ Review - WireFresh

Sandisk-Sansa-Clip-WireFresh.jpg

A review of the Sandisk Sansa Clip+ MP3 player has been posted over at WireFresh.com. 'It's not quite as small as the Shuffle but it's still a wee beastie, weighing just 0.9 ounces and measuring a mere 2.16 by 1.36 by 0.61 inches (HWD), with a handy shirt-clip on its rear panel. It may be small, but Sansa have still managed to squeeze in a bright 1-inch OLED screen with some old-school pixelated animated graphics and customisable EQ settings.'

Archos-3-Vision-TrustedReviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Archos 3 Vision portable media player. 'The Archos 3 doesn't come overstuffed with features, but that doesn't really bother me. The voice recorder, FM radio, photo viewer and stopwatch are all simple but usable, and I can do without the low-quality games or notepad applications that some PMPs insist on packing in. The one 'extra' feature it does offer - a built in FM transmitter - is genuinely useful. It uses the headphone cable as an aerial, which means you need to keep your phones plugged in, but with the FM transmitter switched on the Archos 3 will transmit music directly to your car stereo or kitchen radio.'

Jwin-JX-MP264-4GB-Video-MP3-Player-With-FM-Radio.jpg

The Jwin JX-MP264 4GB 1.8" color LCD Video MP3 player with FM radio has been reduced from $49.99 to $34.99 over at Amazon Marketplace. 'Jwin JX-MP264 4GB 1.8" Color LCD Video MP3 Player withFM RadioCompact, sleek and stylish design; Built-in digital voice; FM radio recorder; Supports ID3 tag and lyric display; E-book reader.Expect a lot from a little. The thinner, smaller, and smarter 4GB 1.8" Color LCD Video MP3 Player with FM Radio by jWIN. Packed with many features, such as avideo player, voice recorder, FM radio, and colorLCD display the 1.8" MP3 Player by jWIN will definitely impress you with its small size, but big features. Sandisk Sansa Clip+ Review - Gadling

Sandisk-Sansa-Clip-Gadling.jpg

A review of the Sandisk Sansa Clip+ MP3 player has been posted over at Gadling.com. 'The Sansa Clip+ comes in three "flavors" 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. The cheapest version starts at just $39.99, followed by $49.99 (for the 4GB) and $69.99 for the 8GB. These prices put it at about 40% cheaper than the iPod Shuffle. Operating the Sansa Clip+ is as simple as can be - you control it with a D-pad, center button and a home button. There is a separate power button and volume controls, so you don't need to remember complicated key combinations to accomplish simple tasks. Getting music on the player is equally simple - you can "drag and drop", or connect it to a PC running Windows Media Player. In Media Player, you can either drag individual tracks, or generate playlists.'

Sony Walkman A845 Review - Zath

Sony-Walkman-A845-Zath.jpg

The Sony Walkman A845 MP3 player has been reviewed over at Zath.co.uk. 'With a thickness of only 7.2mm (although only just thinner than the thinnest laptop) and a weight of only 62g Sony have pushed the boundaries of what defines 'Ultra-Slim' and this really is the MP3 player for those of you who are very weak, supermodels or obsessed with technology. Unfortunately I do feel obliged to point out that I can't remember consciously thinking "Oh, this MP3 player is too heavy!", and in fact the iPod Nano beats it for 'skinnyness' at 6.2mm, but I'll let that pass for the sake of progress!'

Sansa-Clip-4GB-TopReviewShop.jpg

A review of the Sansa Clip+ 4GB MP3 player has been posted over at the Top Review Shop. 'The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is a portable music player that fits in your pocket, or as the name suggests, clips onto your clothing. It is very small - about the size of a matchbox - and is extremely lightweight. It holds several hours of music with its built-in memory of either 2GB, 4GB or 8GB. It comes with a USB cable for transferring music from your Mac or Pc, which is also used to charge the Clip+ from any USB port.'

Amazon-Kindle-DX-Wireless.jpg

The Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device (9.7" Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation) is available on pre-order for $489.00 over at Amazon.com. 'Kindle DX's large display is ideal for a broad range of reading material, including graphic-rich books, PDFs, newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Kindle DX's display is two and a half times the size of the Kindle display. Whether you're reading the latest bestseller or a financial report, text and images are amazingly sharp on the 9.7" screen. Unlike most electronic devices, we wanted to keep Kindle simple. Kindle DX is wireless and ready to use right out of the box-no setup, no cables, no software to install, no computer required.

Mintpass-Mintpad-PMP.jpg

Reg Hardware have published a review of the Mintpad portable media player. 'The Mintpad is small, with just a 2.86in LCD touchscreen as its display and main input. Around the edges there are power and status buttons and a hold switch to lock the display, plus a 3.5mm headphone socket a USB connector and a slot for the stylus. The 320 x 240 screen is bright and clear and the touchscreen is sensitive and easy-to-use. It supports simple gestures, mainly the flick, with other controls from on-screen buttons. Flicking up and down switches between functions, which include Chatting - more correctly messaging - Schedule, Name card for contact details, Text viewer and Recording, as well as the more obvious Video, Audio and Memo.'

Zune-HD-Platinum-The-Gadgeteer.jpg

The Gadgeteer have published a review of the Zune HD Platinum digital media player. 'The Zune HD has an accelerometer that automatically senses when you change positions. However, the orientation of information on the screen doesn't always change. The touch screen is very responsive, and it's a fingerprint magnet, just as you'd expect. The number and placement of the buttons is very similar to those on the iPod touch. There is a power button on the middle of the top, a home button on the front under the screen, and a headphone plug and charging/sync cable connector on the bottom. The left side has a rocker button with a strange function. Pressing the rocker pops up virtual controls on the screen. The virtual control has volume up/down, play, and fast forward/reverse controls.'

Cowon-iAudio-E2-TrustedReviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the Cowon iAudio E2 2GB MP3 player. 'Cowon's little beauty isn't as small or as lightweight as the shuffle, but the minimalist keyring styling, low price and limited feature set all mark it as a competitor to Apple's product. 2.7cm across, 6.4cm tall and less than 8mm thick it's still very compact, and with the weight down to 16.6g it practically begs to be hung around your neck or from a belt loop - or simply attached to your keys. The all-plastic construction means it hasn't got the bulletproof feel of the aluminium shuffle, but the E2 certainly feels solid enough to take a few hard knocks, and the device exudes an understated cool.'

iriver Story Review - CNET UK

iriver-Story.jpg

CNET UK have published a review of the iriver Story Ebook reader with MP3 player. 'The display itself is extremely sharp and clear. It uses e-ink, which means that it's not only easy on the eye but easy on battery power too. The claimed battery life is up to 9,000 page turns, which translates into roughly one and a half copies of Herman Melville's Moby Dick to every full charge. There's no power adaptor in the box. Plugging the Story into a USB port is the only way to charge the device. Once connected, ebooks and other files can simply be dragged and dropped from your computer to the Story. It's a simple-enough process, although the Story lacks the Kindle's useful, shop-anywhere, Wi-Fi download capability.

Archos-5-Internet-Tablet-TrustedReviews.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the Archos 5 Internet Tablet/portable media player. 'Looking at the hardware, it's clear that this is a serious portable media player. There was a time when Archos devices were all about features, with design seeming like a distant afterthought, but the Archos 5 Internet Tablet looks fantastic and feels great in the hand too. The device is dominated by the 4.8in screen, which is a real beauty - the colours are rich and vibrant, while blacks are surprisingly deep, making this a truly excellent movie machine. Add to that the excellent viewing angle, and the Archos 5 Internet Tablet can happily entertain more than one person.

Barnes-and-Noble-Nook-eReader-A-Mind-is-a-Terrible-Thing.jpg

A review of the Review: Barnes & Noble Nook eReader has been posted over at A Mind is a Terrible Thing. 'The speed and responsiveness of the Nook, especially on page changes, was really not good in the initial release, but the software update fixed about 80% of that. Unfortunately they then introduced a problem where a lot of people, myself included, experienced intermittent loss of bookmarks and last-read-point saved information. Not good. Word on their support site is they're working on it, as well as a few other glitches people have reported. Again -- this is a 1.0 product and I have expectations accordingly. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been worse, and that although there have been some hardware issues and returned Nooks, the bulk of the problems are software based (and therefore fixable).'

Sony-Reader-Daily-Edition-PRS-900-MobileTechReview.jpg

MobileTechReview have posted their "first look" review of the Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS-900 eBook Reader. 'As with the PRS-600, the 900 has an excellent user interface that's very intuitive and on the 900, highly graphical. No staring at text-based lists of titles with little if any visual separation between content types (Kindle, I'm looking at you). Instead you've got a section for latest deliveries (generally speaking periodicals) with a cover shot, another section with a shortcut to continue reading your last book or periodical, a section listing books by cover and icons for all periodicals on the reader, collections (you create collections as way to organize content) and notes. The Archos 5 internet tablet/portable media player is previewed in an unboxing video over at Tracy and Matt's Blog. 'The Archos 5 is pitched as being more than just a media player, as the name suggests, the Archos 5 is also a well spec'd and featured internet tablet too. It has Opera web browser pre-installed and is Flash capable so can play back YouTube videos for example. There's also email support with automatic setup for Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo mail but if you have any other email service this can be manually configured using POP3 or IMAP. Sadly no Exchange support though.'
